Welcome
Welcome to Enhui Music School. We want to give our students a great musical education at every skill level while encouraging a love and appreciation of all kinds of music. Music lessons are meant to be fun, but at the same time we strive to make sure ours students have good musical foundations so they can play and appreciate music independently throughout their lives.
Location
Enhui Music School is currently operated in the Tiffin Girls’ School::
The Tiffin Girls’ School
Richmond Road
Kingston upon Thames
Surrey
KT2 5PL.
School entrance is on Richmond Road. Please do not come through other gates of the school as they are not opened during weekends.
There are bus stops next to the school. The closest train station is Kingston.
There are some parking slots outside of the school entrance gate. Please do respect the neighbourhood if you need to park elsewhere when the parking is full.
Preparation
Please make sure the students have their music books and instruments (if relevant) for lessons each week.
It is also important that they have their assignment books. The assignment book not only reminds the students what they need to work on but also means the teacher has a record of what has been done. Consistency for students and teachers is very important.
Depending on how long a student has been taking and the level, practice time varies. It can also vary depending on the family’s schedule. Ideally, a student will practice every day working through the assignments in her/his books. Realistically, encourage them to “play” as much as they can. There are reward methods which we would be happy to discuss with parents if they want some ideas.
It is important to keep open communication with us. We have dedicated staff who will let parents know if there needs to be improvement.
Arriving
Please arrive for your lessons at least 10 minutes prior to your allocated time and get ready for your lessons. Please respect others and be quiet while you are waiting as other students might be having lessons at the same time.
Please enter the classroom on time and respect your teacher and other students as they might have a tight timetable.
Parents of a student from group lessons would not be able to enter the teaching area. Please wait outside the teaching area quietly.
Parents of a student from private lessons might enter the teaching area and sit in the room with the student. Please let a staff know before entering the area and keep quiet all the time. Do not interrupt the lesson otherwise a teacher has the right to ask you to wait outside.
If you want to leave your lesson early, please let a staff know before the lesson starts. A staff will take you out of your classroom at the agreed time.
Parents need to wait outside the teaching area to pick up your children. Students will be taken out by a staff. We will not release a student without seeing the parents. If you want someone else to help you pick up your children, please let a staff know before the lesson ends.
Behaviour
If a child is being disruptive, destructive, or dangerous to themselves, other children, or staff members during class or special events, we will make every effort to work with parents and the child in question to resolve this behaviour. If the behaviour persists or other undesired behaviours develop, the child in question will be asked to take a break from the class or event.
We reserve the right to terminate lessons if a student is not attending regularly.
Food & Drink
Food is not allowed in the teaching area at all times.
You might be able to bring water into classrooms but Cans are not allowed because of spillage.
Enhui Music School is a nut-free school, and no food containing nuts should be brought on to the premises.
Absence
We expect that all students will be available to attend lessons every Saturday/Sunday. However, we realise that there might be the odd occasion when they cannot attend, e.g. owing to a school commitment or family event. If a student needs to be absent for anything other than illness, their parents must make a request for absence in writing by emailing to enhuimusic@gmail.com at least 2 weeks in advance of the absence. If an absence is approved, we will notify the teachers, though as a courtesy the student or her/his parents should please do so too.
If a student is ill and can’t get to the school, their parents must inform us by email at enhuimusic@gmail.com as soon as possible before the lesson. If there is not enough time for you to do so, please phone or text 020 7591 4334 to speak directly to us. We would still need you to send an email even if it is after the absence.
On rare occasions you might have a cover teacher or switch to online lessons in case of a teacher’s illness or absence. Whilst we will make up lessons or send in cover teachers for any lessons for which teachers are absent, please note that we might not be able to rearrange a cover lesson if a student is absent. We do not refund for a lesson when a student is absent.
Commitment
Commitment is very important. Your teacher will emphasize the importance of making a commitment to your music lessons. Learning anything new can be challenging especially in this day of instant gratification. Some things require patience and perseverance and music is one of them – another life lesson that music gives the student.
Recitals
Each teacher will decide about recitals but generally we recommend that each student play in at least one recital (informal) per year. Recitals are meant to be a fun experience for both student and parent – a chance to share their accomplishments. However, we take the performance seriously, and expect the student to as well. This is a life experience. What they learn at the recitals they will apply to other things they do in life. There is nothing more challenging than getting up before an audience and performing. But also, there is nothing more rewarding than the feeling after you have finished. It is a natural high that stays with you for a lifetime.
Exams
A student might be advised to take music exams during their learning if the teacher thinks it is necessary.
Students wishing to take exams will be expected to attend additional exam sessions and will only be entered when the teacher considers them to be ready.
Notice
Parents are required to send a full one-term notice to Enhui Music School in writing by emailing to enhuimusic@gmail.com if their child wishes to withdraw from tuition. If the required notice is not given, a full one term’s fees will be charged in lieu of notice.
An administration fee will be applied for a cancellation or a withdrawal.
